John Rooney, a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2002, was one of the most adored figures in the NFL. John was the son of Arthur J. Rooney, who founded the Steelers, and the brother of former chairman Daniel M. Rooney.

On April 8, 1961, John Rooney and Joanne got married. Sean Rooney, Dr. Peter Rooney, Matthew Rooney, the late Timmy (Timoty) Rooney, and daughters Mary Jo Gormley and Alice Rooney Mohaney were among the couple’s six children.
When John first joined the Steelers organization in 1969, he began a long career in professional football.
Over the years, he had a number of positions with the organization, including vice president and general manager as well as president and director of player personnel. Even during his tenure in Pittsburgh, he was a part of three Super Bowl-winning squads.
